The story of success of Tengelmann Energie.
With the aim of reducing the maintenance and energy costs of the Tengelmann Group, the „Technology & Energy“ division was created in the mid-nineties. In the run-up to the liberalisation of the electricity market, the first employees were already providing energy procurement for the investments of the Tengelmann Group (Plus, OBI, Kaiser, KiK, etc.).
With the start of the liberalisation of the German electricity market in 1998, the systematic procurement of energy began. In addition, the establishment of a central audit office for all electricity bills of the Group companies took place in a timely manner. Due to the high demand, the range of services was expanded, so that in addition to purchasing electricity, energy management was also offered to customers outside the Group.
With the beginning of liberalisation in Austria, the first properties in a European country outside of Germany were also managed.
Tengelmann Energie GmbH (TEG or Tengelmann Energie) was formed just in time for the 10th anniversary of the division, which was founded in 1995. Further major, well-known customers concluded consulting contracts with TEG. In addition, Tengelmann Energie entered the electricity and gas supply business.
With the liberalisation of metrology, Tengelmann Energie entered nationwide metering point operation. The first meters were already installed in 2008. In addition, TEG, in cooperation with the energy provider badenova, founded GrünHausEnergie GmbH in order to be able to offer climate-friendly and certified green electricity at a fair market price.
TEG reinstated its delivery business, restructuring itself and thus sharpening its profile. From then on TEG supported its customers exclusively in a consulting and service function. Following a successful reorganisation, Tengelmann Energie introduced a state-of-the-art IT system that enabled customers to retrieve all relevant energy data online.
Increasing digitisation made linked, web-based and smart solutions more and more important. The self-developed energy management platform „EnerBoard“ was developed especially for the needs of customers. Energy consumption and costs could now be mapped with the aid of the innovative tool across locations and brought up-to-date, so that savings potentials can be identified precisely and quickly. Tengelmann Energie sold its shares in GrünHausEnergie to badenova.
Since 2015, TEG increasingly carried out energy audits for customers, which are mandatory for many companies under the revised Energy Services Act (EDL-G). Here, Tengelmann Energie supported companies in the field of audits in accordance with DIN EN 16247-1 as well as in the introduction and implementation of DIN EN ISO 50001.
Tengelmann Energie supports companies in the individual Smart Meter Rollout, which also affects many companies after the adoption of the Measuring Point Operating Act (MsbG).
Tengelmann Energie leaves the Mülheim headquarters after more than 20 years. On April 27th, 2020 it’s off to the energy capital Essen! The new, centrally located office space is ultra-modern and enables colleagues to work together openly and flexibly.
